Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Volcaro ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Volcaro mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the terms described below.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name (optional)
- An automatically generated unique username
- Encrypted password (we never see your password in plain text)
Onboarding preferences
To personalize your learning experience, we collect:
- Native and learning languages
- Current language level (CEFR self-assessment)
- Topics of interest (e.g. travel, business, food)
- Age range and gender (optional)
- Daily learning goal and reminder time
Learning progress
To support spaced repetition and track your progress, we store:
- Words added to your collection and which sets they belong to
- Review history, repetition intervals, and correctness
- Daily session count, streak, and earned XP
Optional profile data
- Profile picture — if you choose to upload one
- Theme preference (dark or light)
Automatically collected
We do not automatically collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, contacts, location, photos, or microphone data.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the App's learning features
- To synchronize your progress across your devices
- To personalize content based on your interests and level
- To send daily reminder notifications (only at the time you choose)
- To display you on the optional leaderboard (only if you opt in, and only your username — never your email)
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following services to power the App. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Supabase — authentication and database storage. supabase.com/privacy
- Anthropic Claude API — generates personalized word sets and powers the in-app AI assistant. We send only word-related prompts (your interests, learning language). No personally identifiable information is sent. anthropic.com/legal/privacy
- OpenAI — generates illustrative images for words. We send only the word and a short description. openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
- Apple Push Notification Service / Firebase Cloud Messaging — only used to deliver the local daily reminder notifications you've configured.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in encrypted form on Supabase infrastructure (hosted in the EU). Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and never readable by us. Communication between the App and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS.
5. Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not show ads in the App.
We may disclose information if required by law (court order, lawful request from authorities).
6. Your Rights
You can at any time:
- Access your data via the App's Settings screen
- Edit your display name, theme, language preferences, daily goal, and reminder time
- Opt out of the leaderboard via Settings
- Delete your account and all associated data by emailing support@volcaro.app from your registered email. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. We process deletion requests within 7 days.
7. Children
Volcaro is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified in the App. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
